En un procedimiento absolutamente seguro, novedoso, indicado en pacientes con sobrepeso y obesidad, con la finalidad de lograr una perdida de peso de manera segura y exitosa, para este procedimiento el paciente ingiere el balón mediante una cápsula, la cual posteriormente una se ubica en el estomago del paciente y es llenada con 550cc, de una solución estéril. Para la implantación de este dispositivo el profesional idóneo es un gastroenterólogo.

Este balón permanece en el estomago aproximadamente 16 semanas (4 meses), posterior a este tiempo el balón se degrada y se expulsa sin necesidad de intervenciones adicionales.  La perdida esperada de peso es del 10 al 15%.

Es un procedimiento indicado en pacientes con sobrepeso y obesidad, en el cual se implanta en el estómago, por medio de un endoscopio, un dispositivo que viene plegado, para este procedimiento, se requiere que el paciente este bajo sedación. Posterior a la confirmación endoscópica de la ubicación en el estomago, se llena el balón con 500 a 700cc de solución salina y azul de metileno.

El retiro del balón se realiza entre 6 meses a 1 año posterior a la implantación y requiere anestesia general con intubación orotraqueal.
